Denver ERP conversion pain probably isn’t that different from anywhere else — but the trauma of conversion might not be as excruciating as living with older enterprise software, a new survey suggests.
The survey, conducted by Intact Software, asked users of traditional ERP systems to list their current “pain points,” according to a Formtek.com blog.
About two-thirds of the users questioned, blogger Dick Weisinger notes, are using at least one SAP, Microsoft Dynamics or SAGE ERP system.
The top 10 problems users cited in the survey:
• Costly to upgrade
• Costly to maintain
• Inflexible and difficult to adapt to meet changing business needs
• Expensive to change
• Each department runs on a different system with a different database
• Difficult to extract information
• Business processes have to change in order to fit to the software
• Impossible to get one overall view of the data
• Expensive add-ons are required to meet requirements
• Information extracted from the system is inaccurate
Sound painfully familiar?
Then maybe it’s time for an upgrade — or at least a closer evaluation.
As Weisinger points out, Intact Software obviously has something to gain by persuading companies to modernize or replace their ERP systems.
But the point stands.
Considering the number of options available for enterprise software now — cloud-based, Open Source, proprietary — it’s wise to keep your eyes open and make sure your existing system is still measuring up.
