When used right, IT can be a competitive weapon for Denver small business owners. However, many small business owners aren't all that tech savvy, and if they are, they don't hold IT in high regard. Times have changed.
Small business owners have so many options on how to leverage information technology. From some Denver CFO's perspective, many companies don’t look at an IT infrastructure as an investment but as a necessary cost. Small businesses often especially have this unfortunate attitude.
In most industries, IT can have such a great impact on growth and success and profitability, a business owner would be remiss to NOT focus on how much IT can cause them to out-compete in their market. Many of the latest software tools are phenomenally, especially when a good IT consultant can guide a company through the best choices to follow. If the small business owner is afraid to spend the money on IT, and only focused on selling or marketing their products/services, they'll continue to fall behind as their competitors make smart IT investments.
In the year 2011 there is so much productivity improving technology it can make your head spin. What a good business leader needs is a competent outside perspective to guide them through the mired of choices that will give them the greatest impact. A CFO at a small business should help drive the top line and competitiveness, not just focus on cost savings. The small business owner can find a world or new possabilities and markets through technology and by doing so allow themselves to focus his/her time on the things that will grow a company, and let the advantages of IT become part of the strategic decisions.
