We read with interest the synopsis of a recent study showing that about one software development project in five is deemed a failure. Ouch!
The study, from the Standish Group, was covered by Computer World here.
In addition to the 21% of projects deemed a failure, another 42% had "challenges" such as coming in late, over the allotted budget, or the customers didn't like the end result.
The rest, a whopping 37%, were a success, according to that study.
The good news is that as an industry things are getting better!
Standish reported back in March that the numbers are actually improving. Back in 2004 only 24% of projects were reported as being a success.
"We clearly are entering a new understanding of why projects succeed or fail," said the chairman of the Standish Group, Jim Johnson.
What are the keys to a successful Denver software development effort? We maintain that part of that effort is keeping the work local. Locally developed projects foster better communications and idea sharing. It also allows your consultants more opportunities to understand your business and the goals you have for your project.
The second is having skilled professionals with the expertise and experience that understand the pitfalls and opportunities that come with a successfully implemented project. Having the consultant(s) to guide you through your tasks that have the Right experience goes a long way in keeping from making the mistakes that others have made before. That is what we specialize in at Right Time Consulting, we have the IT staffing resources for every need that will save you time and money to ensure your project becomes a success story.
